iWant: Stylish Flats

I'm going to let you in on a little secret: I hate wearing heels. Over the years my collection of stilettos and platforms has been replaced by wedges and more pedestrian-friendly footwear.  At one point (in my early twenties, natch), I wouldn't have been caught dead in anything less than a 4 inch heel. Today, I've smartened up and realized that you can have shoes that are stylish and low to the ground. Here are some skimmers, ballet flats and smoking loafers that I've got my eye on for fall.

"Viv" Patent Flats, $188 | J.Crew

"Christina" B&W Skimmer, $79 | Shoemint.com

 Ballerina Metal Cap-Toe, $29 | Zara.com

4. Personal Style: Afro-Chic
5. Favorite Item of Clothing: A thick waist-cinching belt (is that the proper term?)

6. What Makes Your Style Unique: I like to incorporate pieces from Africa and the Caribbean in every outfit. Colors and patterns tall a story of who I am and where I am going. Since I have to wear a lot of black for work, I like to jazz things up with colors and patterns.

My Identity...

My new calling cards have arrived and I couldn't be more pleased with the finished product!

Now that I've quasi set-up shop, I'll be posting more info on my blogging and social media consulting soon!

In the meantime, I'd like to give a very special thank you to fab graphic designer Pamela Sherry of Pixelimpress! Check out her shop on Etsy.com!

Travel in Style...

I'm heading to Miami next weekend for a quick-and-easy getaway with my sister. I've been on a mad hunt for a great carry-on bag that speaks to my fun-loving personality, but doesn't scream "tacky traveler." So imagine my delight when I found this:

Name: Dana Terry
Location: Jackson, MS
Occupation: Public Relations Director
Personal Style: Fabulous on a budget, honey! No, seriously, it would be very hard for me to describe my personal style. I have a very versatile wardrobe from pencil skirts to mini skirts to Chuck's. I love being a "girly girl" and I LIVE for bold colors and prints.

Favorite Clothing Item: Hands down, my Gap legging jeans. They fit perfectly! And, they are always rolling out new colors. I have six pairs!

What makes your style stand out: I believe my versatility is what makes my style stand out. You definitely can't predict what I might be wearing to an event. As long as it is complimentary to my body type, I'll try it.

Last week I got to sit in on a sneak peak of fall 2012 fashion trends presented by Arlene Goldstein, VP of Trend Merchandising and Fashion Direction for Belk {see this post if you missed it}, and today I'm sharing some of the styled looks put together by her team.

Deal of the Day: NCLA Nail Lacquers (50% off)!

Not sure if many of you know, but along with my blogging and social media work, I'm also a licensed manicurist. I've had a love for all things beauty since I could remember, and today's Deal of the Day speaks to my inner beauty queen.

Los Angeles-based polish line NCLA + Lucky Magazine are offering a today-only deal for 50% off nail lacquers! That's just $8 for one of the most popular polish lines currently on the market (i.e. sort of a big deal)!

I am a huge fan of NCLA, especially their cool nail wraps, so this discount is right up my alley. Here are some of my fave colors from the line:

Pick Me Up at Melrose Place

I'm With the Band

Poolside Party, All Eyes on Me

Santa Monica Shore Thing

Grab 'em while they're hot! Go to www.luckymag.com to take advantage of the deal (like, right now!), and visit www.shopncla.com to learn more about the line.

With a Little Help From My Friends . . .

Saturday I had the pleasure of working with four of my most favorite people in the world on a mini photo shoot for the blog. Chezzy (the photographer), Shona (the co-stylist), Nikki (the makeup guru) and CC (the best sissy ever!) helped me edit outfits, find the right accessories and pick the perfect shades of lipsticks for my upcoming outfit-of-the-day segments. Here are some behind-the-scenes photos!

Thanks to you four wonderful darlings for a day of fun, photography, playing in makeup and just an all around good time! XOXO.

1. Name: Kathleen Williams

2. Location: Mississippi

3. Occupation: Marketing, Events & PR Manager / Founder and Editor of Carrie Bradshaw Lied (www.carriebradshawlied.com)

4. Personal Style: Polished and classic with youthful, trendy and unique accessories - fabulous on a 20-something budget!

5. Favorite Item of Clothing: My most versatile piece of clothing that I get the most wear out of are my Gap Really Skinny black pencil pants. They are work-appropriate and go with everything - I have four pairs!

6. Smartest/Most Amazing Purchase: My pearl jumbo Chanel brooch. I love a brooch - so classically chic and can be worn so many ways.

7. What Makes Your Style So Unique: Personally, I feel that true style is the ability to mix and match - to wear a Chanel bag and Louboutins with a Walmart dress and Target necklace. I don't think great style is found on a label or a price tag.

8. Style philosophy: Be confident in your own skin and your fashion selections. I can't tell you how many times I hear, "Oh I could never pull that off," or "I love that look but I could never wear that!" Why couldn't you? I dress for myself and I wear whatever I think looks good and in turn it makes me feel good. That key element that pulls any look together -- Confidence.
