Trends to Try: Hologram

If you've been keeping up with fashion reporting as of late, then you'd notice one trend that has slowly started to creep up from runway to real time: holograms.

Antonio Berardi, S/S 2013
Proenza Schouler
Jonathan Saunders Spring 2013

Spotted in accessories for Stella McCartney and on runways at Blumarine, Hugo Boss and even Burberry Prorsum, the trick to this fun trend is moderation. A head to toe holographic look is sure to raise some eyebrows, but adding pieces in small doses will definitely work if you're ready to take the look head on. Here are a few sweet and simple options for incorporating holograms into your spring/summer 2013 wardrobe.

Rainy Days

I hate running errands in the rain. Not to mention, this kind of weather can make it incredibly difficult to dress cute and comfortably. Solution? Go for soft-to-the-touch fabrics like a ponte blazer (in a bold color, natch), a cotton tee and your favorite skinny jeans. Pair with wet-weather accessories such as wellies, a nylon tote and an umbrella in a fabulous print and you're good to go!

I think not.

Going Green

Get ready to see tons of home, beauty and fashion/accessories in emerald green, as the color experts at Pantone have named it the 2013 color of the year. I, for one, couldn't be more excited. Emerald is my absolute favorite color, and here are a few items (aspirational and totally attainable) that look simply gorgeous in green.

Mountain Chic

I've lived in Georgia going on 10 years now and I've yet to take a visit to the famed Northeast Georgia Mountains. Since winter is the perfect time of year for a romantic mountain getaway, maybe I can convince The Mr. to start planning a trip soon.

And what mini-mountain vacay would be complete without a fabulous ensemble for the occasion? I'm thinking cold-weather accessories with a pop of color and a hint of rugged coolness. Solution: a warm (but fab) shearling coat paired with a basic white tee, super-strechy denim, a cozy scarf, booties and a statement bag.

Yup. I can definitely see me getting my hike on in these babies.

Inauguration Nails: Beyonce's Bright Orange Manicure

It's no secret that I'm a card-carying member of the Beyhive. I've been a Beyonce fan since high school, and I don't see myself giving up my obsession love for her any time soon.

So of course I had to do my research to find out what nail color she was wearing during yesterday's Presidential Inauguration (where she belted out the National Anthem for dear life!)

And here it is . . .

NCLA is a really cool brand of polishes and nail wraps (see my previous post about them HERE). I actually own a few bottles of this California-based polish line and the color selection is amazing .  . .  and totally worth the $16 price tag. (Trust me.)

And since Queen Bey chose this as her go-to color for Prez O.'s big day, expect this shade to start flying off the shelves in a matter of moments. Get it while the getting is good!

Friday's Fab Five {1.18.13}

Structural and gorgeous. This Jewelmint "Blackbird Cage" bangle
is currently in my shopping cart!

I'm obsessed with these Warby Parker frames. OBSESSED!

The perfect traveling carryall. See by Chloe never disappoints.

This crazy Georgia weather has me craving a trench coat. And this Kate Spade version ads some serious sassy style to a classic look.

I can blame my husband for this pick. His love of Bourbon calls for only "manly" ice cubes to adorn his monogram high ball glasses. These Tovolo XL cube trays do the trick.

Virtual Styling: Take 1

One of my goals for 2013 is to break into fashion in a more tangible way. Don't get me wrong, I love blogging and sharing my finds, steals and deals with you all here at BOTO, but I feel a constant tug at my heartstrings to work in the fashion industry in a more hands-on capacity. So I'm super excited to have my first opportunity at a virtual styling gig!

A friend of mine suggested my services to an acquaintance looking for styling help. From that connection, a skype convo took place. Now, I've taken her on as a client and we're currently working through looks to add to her wardrobe.

My client's ideal look is Scandal's Oliva Pope meets Rihanna. . .

Yes, two VERY different looks, I know.

So I've been working with lots of color and texture to try and merge the two styles. So far, here is what I've put together so far:

Classic + Tailored with Feminine Details.

 Playful. Relaxed. On-trend.

Soft silhouettes with minimal accessories.

I'm still hard at work pulling together ensembles, so let me know what you think of what I've done so far!

Also, if you're interested in styling services (virtual or in-person) for a big night out, an upcoming job interview or curious to try out a new you, send me an email to brainsoftheoutfit@gmail.com ! I'd love to go shopping with you!

Vision Boards: Manifest Your Destiny!

I've been giving a lot of thought lately to what I want for my life, my career and my marriage in 2013. After having lunch with a new friend on Saturday, she suggested I get down and dirty with a vision board. Boasting the awesome power of visualization and speaking things into existence, she had me sold...hook line and sinker. So immediately after our outing, I scoured Pinterest, pulled out all my old magazines and busied myself with clipping and finding great quotes that spoke to my heart and my desires.

Fast forward to Sunday night.

After watching a few episodes of GIRLS season 1, I began to think about the show's main character,  26-year-old actor, writer, and filmmaker, Lena Dunham. Girlfriend is now a MAH-JOR Hollywood darling, and last October, she signed a $3.7 million book deal. Did I mention she's only 26? I'm sure she's worked her tail off and sacrificed a few things to get where she is today. But I couldn't help but to think of the path she took to get there....and the plans she set forth for herself.

So I took to my dining room table with the courageous spirit of Lena Dunham, and mapped out my life's dream to manifiest for 2013. Here's what I got:

Taaa friggin daa!

Did you create a vision/inspiration/manifestation board for the new year? What are your dreams and goals and how are you preparing to see them through? Leave a comment for me below!

2013 Golden Globes: Red Carpet Done Right

Last night was an epic evening for television. I frantically flipped back and forth between the season 2 premier of GIRLS (my favorite show on cable right now) and the 70th annual Golden Globes. But the center of my joy came from watching all the lovely ensembles worn by Hollywood A-listers on the red carpet.

There was A LOT of boob and leg going on....and I didn't mind it one bit! Hey, if you got it (and you're not too old), flaunt it! Here's a recap of some of my favorite looks of the night:

1. Rosario Dawson in Antonio Beradi:
I love the color on this peplum gown. It's fresh and playful, but still serious enough for an awards show. And the cap sleeve really shows off her perfectly toned arms!

 2. Sally Field in Alberta Ferretti:
Gorgeous color and draping. Best of all, it's age appropriate without being matronly.

 3. Nene Leakes in Carolina Herrera:
I was pleasantly surprised with this look on Nene. I always love how she let's her larger-than-life personality star as the focal point, and keeps her ensembles classy and covered up.
This dress is chic and fits her like a glove. Bravo, honey!

 4. Kerry Washington in Miu Miu:
Ms. Kerry has been SHUTTING DOWN red carpets lately during promo tours for Django. And this sheer + crystal embellished gown is what we've come to expect from the "Scandal" star.

 5. Jennifer Lawrence in Dior:
I love a good ball gown. And this corseted number by Dior does J. Law good! The color works well with her ivory skin and the metal belt...genius!

6. Salma Hayek in Gucci:
I'm a lifelong card-carying member of the fabulous curvy girls club. And this beautiful strapless/sparkly Gucci gown has me wanting to elect Salma Hayek for club president!

 7. Dame Helen Mirren in Badgley Mischka:
The dame definitely brought her A-game in this long, bodycon gown. The studded sleeves and bodice detail add the perfect amount of va va voom to an otherwise simple silhouette.

8. Kate Hudson in Alexander McQueen:
Mama Kate simply shines in this gorgeous McQueen number. The cinched waist detail and mermaid hemline is giving me lots of old Hollywood glamor. Perfection!

  9. Eva Longoria in Pucci:
Angelina really started something last year. This high slit trend ran amok during last night's red carpet presentation. But I have to give it to the former Mrs. Tony Parker, as she was my absolute favorite in the trend. The billowy train,  lace bodice and peek-a-boo cutout all worked together to create a stunning look.

What do you think about my picks? Did I miss any standout looks? What were your favorites from the night? Leave a comment below!

Friday's Fab Five {1/11/13}

A list of my latest obsessions for the week. . .

 1. Juice Beauty Organics to Clear Skin Kit
My sissy gave me this for Christmas and I am hooked! I've been using the products pretty consistently since then, and my skin feels/looks sooo much better. Even-toned and very supple. I think I've found my new go-to system.

 2. Spotify
My iPod died a couple years back and I have yet to recover all the music I lost. So I upgraded my Spotify subscription to the premium version. Best. Decision. Ever. I can listen to everything I want on any device (iPhone, computer, iPad) and discover new music in the process!

 3. Sugar Lip Treatment SPF15
Got this from Sephora as my "birthday gift" for being a Beauty Insider. I never leave home without it. It keeps my lips super smooth and soft for hours. Plus, it doesn't leave behind any residue like some lip balms and conditioners. Score!

 4. Bliss Soapy Suds Vanilla + Bergamot Body Wash
What can I say? I'm a Bliss girl, 100%. All the way. And Marshall's is a great place to score their bath and beauty offerings for a fraction of the price (got this bottle for $9!). Their vanilla + bergamot body wash has a great scent and the formula is very gentle on skin. Win win!

5. Make Up For Ever HD Microfinish Powder
OK, ladies. This is the secret to a great beat. Brush a little of this magic powder on to set your look in place, and your makeup will last forever. No, really. It's that amazing!

Grey, Leopard + Lime (and a little turquoise....)

It's a rainy day here in Atlanta. And not to mention, 70 degrees. So to lift my mood and dress for the weather, I decided to keep it casually chic with a little lime green, grey and leopard. I always love when I can throw together a complete look with separates that I wear on a regular basis. Never thought to put these elements together, but I think it came out OK!
