a personal blog by erin whitlock brown

Happy New Year, folks! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season and had plenty of opportunities to spend time with loved ones. I had a great two weeks away from work and away from the blog. And during that time, I took on a few household projects, including this Ikea hack I found on Pinterest. Now I will be honest...this project took lots more time and required more glasses of wine than previously anticipated. But I'm really happy with the way the nailhead side table came out. And it only cost me $22 ($12 for the Ikea tables, $10 for the nailheads from Hobby Lobby.)

I've been playing around with different design aesthetics in our home and recently cleared a space in our master bedroom to create a reading nook. The shabby chic chairs have been in my possession for 10 years, gifted from my sister who found them at a yard sale. I've been saying I want to get them covered, but after pairing the with the side table and set against our window treatments, I think I like the vintage-y feel this looks gives off.

Another note...I took the lazy approach and didn't properly measure between each position of the nailhead. So some of it looks really messy, but again, I think it gives the table a bit of charm.

Lastly, I added a few magazines, books and another visual elements to top it off. I wish you guys could've seen what this area looked like before (actually, I don't wish that). These chairs were basically used to store clothes yet to be hung up and as Teddy's afternoon napping spot. I've been in this condo for almost 6 years, so it's finally time I figured out something to do with my fab vintage chairs!

What do you think about my new reading nook? Have you tackled any Ikea hacks or projects on Pinterest? Leave a comment for me below!
